Kyoryo Sentai Zyuranger AKA: Mighty Morphing Power Rangers

Post by Prak »

Well, sorta.

So, anyway, I work at a halloween store and we have a pair of Adult Red Ranger costumes (first season) this year, and someone finally bought one. My coworkers and I were geeking out with the guy while he tried the costume on, and so, partially because I couldn't remember two of the original zords I decided to spend some time looking power rangers up tonight... the wonderful wikipedia gave me the names of the original japanese shows that were smashed together to create the drivel we get. With the name I found the first episode of Kyoryo Sentai Zyuranger on google and watched it... it was.... well, honestly, crap, but no more so (less so, infact) than MMPR and it was actually enjoyable, keep in mind this is from Japan, was created in the 70's and made for about the 6-12 yo males demographic so the stop motion transformations, the cheesy gags, all that kinda thing are pretty par for the course. This did answer one question I've had, namely why the pink ranger had a skirt on her costume while the yellow ranger did not, originally the yellow ranger was male, something other geeks have probably picked up on but I didn't know because, well, it's been fucking 15 years...

As I've always expected the original show is actually alot better than the mashed up, reshot crap we got.

Take a look: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 8740798098

It is actually rather interesting, and makes me, again, want to actually run something like this sometime...
Cuz apparently I gotta break this down for you dense motherfuckers- I'm trans feminine nonbinary. My pronouns are they/them.

There is an episode out there somewhere with all of them - from every season, creating an army of power rangers. With all of their giant robots.

It starts with Ninja Ranger in that episode, with their great catchphrase:

"We hide from people and cut evil!"

It's good for a laugh.

So.... basically the american version was the original with the scenes that had the american actors show up edited into the original.

The dubbing of the bad guys was pretty good as well, since they weren't replaced and they do talk from time to time.

I think that there might have been some scenes where the gryphon-baddy fought the actors when they weren't in armour/suits; so the american version would have needed a copy of that character's suit.

While everyone's Philosophy is not in accord, that doesn't mean we're not on board.
